A disqualified driver has been arrested after being detected travelling at almost 40km/h over the speed limit on a stretch of road in Dundalk that has been the scene of serious collisions.
Gardaí from the Dundalk Roads Policing Unit detected a van travelling at 97km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Inner Relief Road near the racecourse.
The driver was stopped and arrested at the scene. Gardaí said the driver was immediately recognised by a member of the unit, who had previously prosecuted the individual last year in a case which resulted in the driver receiving a lengthy driving disqualification.
