Shoplifter punched a secuirty guard at a Louth store

A 32-year-old shoplifter who assaulted a security guard as he was being escorted from a local Dunnes Stores, has been sentenced to two months at Dundalk district court.

Arturas Skalisius with an address at Rosevale, Castleblayney pleaded guilty to the charge of assault arising out of the incident at Ard Easmuinn, Dundalk on April 24th last, while a charge of theft arising out of the same incident was marked taken into consideration.

The court heard he had stolen a bottle of wine around 11.40am and later returned and attempted to take another. He turned and punched the security guard as he was being escorted out of the premises.

The Defence barrister said his client, who is originally from Lithuania, had worked as a labourer before being remanded in custody.
