Louth Gardaí and the Louth Fire Service are appealing to the public to act responsibly this Halloween, warning of the serious dangers posed by illegal fireworks and unsupervised bonfires.
Gardaí in Louth say they are receiving daily complaints about fireworks being set off in public parks and green areas. Officers report that many of those involved are teenagers and even younger children.
In one recent incident, Community Gardaí encountered a parent who admitted to driving their teenager to another village specifically to let off fireworks.
A Garda spokesperson said:
“Fireworks cause many injuries, including horrible burn-related injuries. We want to prevent this. They also terrify people and animals and can cause damage to property.”
Gardaí are urging parents to be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts this Halloween night.
“Do you know where your son or daughter will be this evening? How will you feel if Garda resources have to be diverted to deal with your child, who could then face the consequences under the Juvenile Liaison Scheme?”

Meanwhile, the Louth County Fire Service has also issued a Halloween safety reminder.
“Fireworks are dangerous and illegal—so stay away!” a spokesperson said. “Don’t leave candles unattended, and plan safe, fun activities instead of attending unauthorised bonfires.”
