Man (25) sentenced for damaging a car at Dundalk railway station

A 25-year-old man who was removed from a train at Clarke Railway Station by a member of Irish Rail staff, as it wasn't going any further, later damaged the man's car in the car park, Dundalk district court heard last week.

Dermot Costello with an address at The Ripley Court Hotel, Talbot Street, Dublin 1 was charged with causing criminal damage to a Vauxhall Vectra on July 17th last and with interfering with its mechanism arising out of that incident.

He was also charged with damaging a cell in Dundalk Courthouse, with damaging the cell of a Garda Ford Transit Connect van by urinating and soiling the walls and floor on the same day and with escaping lawful custody at Dundalk Courthouse the previous day (July 16th).

The Defence barrister described Mr Costello as a very nervous gentleman who did not receive any medical attention.

Judge Stephanie Coggans imposed a three month sentence.
