Driver caught speeding outside north Louth school

As schools reopened this week, Gardaí are reminding motorists to take extra care around school zones after a driver was caught speeding outside a Louth school.

Dundalk Roads Policing Unit carried out speed checks near schools in the area on Thursday morning. While gardai said it was “great to see lots of kids rushing back in the gates to see friends and start a new year,” they also expressed concern over dangerous driving.

One motorist was detected travelling at 75km/h in a 50km/h zone outside a school in Bellurgan. Gardaí have warned that speeding in such areas puts children at serious risk and are urging all drivers to slow down and be mindful of safety as the school term gets underway.
