A driver has been caught tearing past a Louth primary school at almost double the speed limit, just as pupils were finishing for the day.
Members of the Dundalk Roads Policing Unit were carrying out speed checks on the Cooley Peninsula this week when they clocked the speeding vehicle outside the school.
The driver of the SUV was clocked doing 92km/h in a 50km/h zone directly outside Bellurgan National School.
The incident happened shortly before school finishing time, highlighting the potentially serious consequences of such reckless driving in a high-risk zone.
In a social media post, a Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Dundalk Roads Policing Unit were conducting speed checks during the week on the Cooley Peninsula.
“Gardaí detected the driver of this vehicle at 92km/h in a 50 zone outside Bellurgan School shortly before finishing time.”
Gardaí confirmed that a prosecution has now commenced following the shocking incident.
