Dundalk district court has been told a man who admitted three shoplifting offences, including cleaning products and toilet roll, was at a low ebb at the time.

The court heard that Noel McDonagh (49) with an address at Drive 1, Dundalk targeted Boyd's Stores, Clanbrassil Centre twice on September 2nd last.

He stole  three packs of toilet paper at 11am and at 3pm when he left without paying for a €6 pencil case.

On February 8th 2024, he entered Mr. Price shortly after 4pm with a pram and a child and stole cleaning products worth €83.91 which were put into the pram.

The defendant had 40 previous convictions including 21 for theft.

The Defence solicitor said his client has managed to stay out of  trouble for some time and is now the sole carer for his 16 year old daughter and added that the pencil case theft was “down to facilitating her return to school”.

He added Mr. McDonagh was at a low ebb and has medical issues related to his heart and diabetes.

Judge Stephanice Coggans imposed a one month sentence for the Mr. Price theft which she suspended on him entering a €200 bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour and marked the other offences 'taken into consideration'.
