A 51 year old man who Dundalk District Court was told had given a false name after he verbally abused gardai who were on patrol, was fined €500 in his absence last week.
Martin McShane with an address at Back Road, Mullaghbawn, Newry was charged with being intoxicated in a public place, using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and providing a name and address which was false and misleading at Anne Street Dundalk on November 5th last.
The court was told he allegedly called the gardai a "useless shower of b******" and at the time of his arrested under the Public Order Act he gave another name, an incorrect date of birth and an address on Loughross Road.
Judge Stephanie Coggans imposed a €500 fine for using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and marked the other charges 'taken into consideration'.
The judge also made an order forfeiting his bail money.
