Dundalk court: Young man stuck fingers up at gardaí

A man who began sticking his figures up and making rude gestures at gardaí who had seen him stumbling while shouting at members of the public, had his case struck out at Dundalk District Court last week after he paid €300 to the court poor box.

Court Presenter Sgt. Jimmy McGovern said that Ryan Treanor of Carrickasticken, Forkhill had also claimed "he would batter gardaí" and he resisted arrest while handcuffs were being placed on him.

The defendant was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour on Park Street, Dundalk on March 5th last.

The court heard the 20 year old, who had no previous convictions, had no recollection of the incident as he was very drunk and was in court with his mother.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan said "It's terrible behaviour. It's absolutely terrible" and added "He should have apologised before today".

After €300 was handed in for the Turas counselling service, Judge McKiernan told his solicitor:
"I hope he's learned his lesson".
