Sinn Féin Councillor Fiona Mhic Conchoille has issued a strong public condemnation following a fire in the Ardaghy area of Omeath on Tuesday night, which she says could have had devastating consequences for a local family.

Taking to social media after the incident, Cllr Mhic Conchoille expressed outrage and concern over the blaze, which required a significant emergency services response. She warned that the fire came “dangerously close” to displacing a family from their home, calling the act “thoughtless” and “shameful.”

"To the person responsible for igniting the fire in Ardaghy, Omeath, last night, you should be filled with nothing but remorse. Have you even considered the devastating consequences of your actions?,” she said.

The fire was brought under control by emergency services.

“Your thoughtlessness could have left them without a home,” the councillor continued.

“Never mind the amount of our emergency services that had to be directed to this. These fires have got to stop,” she concluded.
