The aftermath of the fire at the Walker family's home
The Cooley community has come together in an outpouring of support for the Walker family after a tragic house fire destroyed their home and all their belongings. Packy and Amanda Walker, along with their four children—Sophie, Sarah, Shannon, and Patrick—lost everything in the blaze. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the family now faces the daunting challenge of rebuilding their lives, made even more difficult by the fact that their house insurance had lapsed in December.
Friends and neighbors, determined to help, have launched a GoFundMe campaign to provide immediate financial assistance for the family. The fundraiser, set up by close friends, aims to help replace essential items and offer the Walkers some stability as they begin the process of recovery. So far the effort has raised an amazing €42,500 out of a goal of €50,000.
Local GAA club Cooley Kickhams has also stepped forward in solidarity, urging the community to contribute whatever they can. Sarah and Shannon play for the club’s senior panel, while Patrick is on the minor panel. Amanda, Packy, and Sophie have been longstanding supporters of the club, always ready to lend a helping hand. The club expressed heartbreak over the family's loss and confidence in the community’s generosity: “We know that the community will come together and support them at this difficult time.”

To further bolster fundraising efforts there will be a special benefit night, A Night for the Walkers – Rise Again in the Four Seasons Hotel Carlingford on Sunday, April 27th, at 6:00 PM. The event will feature live music and entertainment, providing an opportunity for friends, family, and supporters to come together and show their solidarity. Tickets are available online via Eventbrite, with proceeds going directly to the Walkers.
