Network Ireland Louth hosted another inspiring event in the Monasterboice Inn for their February event for members.  It was an insightful and practical workshop on Lean and Six Sigma and was delivered by Annmarie McHugh of Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT).

At the outset of the session, an audience poll revealed that over 80% of attendees had little or no prior knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma.  Annmarie introduced the group to the five core principles of Lean and demonstrated how these can be effectively implemented within small and growing businesses. She emphasised the measurable financial efficiencies and productivity gains that organisations can achieve when Lean practices are properly introduced and continuously monitored. In simple terms, Lean focuses on creating greater customer value while using fewer resources.

The session also explored Six Sigma, a data-driven methodology used to identify defects, improve processes, and maximise customer satisfaction. Members were introduced to the DMAIC framework (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) and gained a clear understanding of how structured problem-solving can drive consistent quality and long-term business improvement.

Gráinne McKeown, representing the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Louth, attended the event and outlined the current Lean for Business programme available to local enterprises, encouraging Network Ireland members to avail of this valuable support.

The evening concluded with a follow-up poll which demonstrated a significant increase in attendees’ understanding of Lean and Six Sigma. Pauline Clarke, President of Network Ireland Louth said that members left not only with enhanced knowledge, but with practical, actionable steps they could immediately apply within their own businesses — a true reflection of Network Ireland Louth’s commitment to empowering women in business through education, collaboration, and tangible support.

The next event takes place on 5th March 2026 in the Gateway Hotel in Dundalk, and it is to celebrate International Women’s Day and to celebrate women in business at every stage in their journey.  It is a collaboration with Local Enterprise Office Louth and Network Ireland Louth and entitled “From Start Up to Scale Up”.   Booking for the event is through www.localenterprise.ie/louth.
