Dundalk Chamber President Hanna McDonnell presenting a cheque for €2,150 to members of Dundalk Women's Aid
The groundbreaking She Leads event, hosted at the Fairways Hotel Dundalk on 5th September 2025, has successfully raised over €8,900 to support women and children experiencing domestic abuse across the border region. The funds will be split equally among four vital charity partners: Women's Aid Dundalk, Drogheda Women's and Children's Refuge, Meath Women's Refuge and Support Services, and Women's Aid Armagh & Down.
The collaborative initiative brought together the presidents of six Chambers of Commerce – Dundalk, County Meath, Newry, Lisburn, Warrenpoint Burren and Rostrevor, and Drogheda all of whom are female leaders themselves, demonstrating the power of cross-border partnership in support of women's advancement.
The funds raised will provide crucial resources for women and children seeking refuge and support services across the region, helping these organisations continue their life-saving work in communities on both sides of the border.
Hanna McDonnell, President, Dundalk Chamber said: “Dundalk Chamber was proud to collaborate with our fellow Chambers along the M1 corridor on the She Leads event, which demonstrated the strength of regional and cross-border partnership and the positive impact of business networks working together for social good. The event provided an excellent platform for connection and collaboration between Chambers, their members and key stakeholders across Dundalk, Louth and the wider cross-border region.
“We are delighted that significant funds were raised to support women and children locally, and particularly pleased that Women’s Aid Dundalk will benefit from this support, enabling them to continue their essential work within our community. She Leads highlights the important role Chambers play in promoting leadership, inclusion and meaningful community engagement.”
Over 170 attendees gathered for an inspiring day of discussion, networking, and empowerment. The event, expertly hosted by Denise Watson, featured powerful contributions from leaders across business and politics.
A standout panel discussion saw businesswomen Sarah McAvoy, Caroline Duffy, and Tina Calder share insights on building resilience in business and overcoming challenges. The political panel brought together Liz Kimmins MLA, Minister for Infrastructure, and Louth TD Paula Butterly, who addressed the stark disparity in how women in politics are treated compared to their male counterparts.
The large business panel featured Jackie Reid, Orlaith Blaney, and Sandra Byrne, who demonstrated that breaking the glass ceiling isn't about fitting in, but rather learning to confidently make your mark while bringing others along with you.
The event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors and partners including Louth Local Enterprise Office, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Permanent TSB, SRC, Deli Lites, and Excalibur Press.
Ann Larkin, CEO Women’s Aid Dundalk said: “Domestic, sexual and gender-based violence knows no borders and affects individuals and families across all communities, backgrounds and stages of life. While awareness has grown, many people still lack information about the supports available and how best to help women and children experiencing violence in their homes.

“The decision of the She Leads - Women Shaping Economies initiative to recognise and support the work of Women’s Aid Dundalk is both significant and symbolic, particularly as we mark 30 years since the organisation’s foundation. So much has been achieved but still much to do and I hope that all who have gathered here today will look at the vast contribution that Women make when we come together with a shared vision to create opportunities for dialogue, connection and support.”
The six Chambers of Commerce are announcing plans to make She Leads an annual fixture on the cross-border business calendar, continuing to champion female leadership while supporting vital causes in the community.
