Dundalk design duo 'very honoured and privileged' to receive Rising Star Designer Award

Dundalk design duo Rachel O'Hanrahan and Sarah Marry recently earned two top spots for both the Rising Star Interior Designer Award and the Design Project of the Year Award.

The pair who co-run the interior design business Hestia said they were thrilled and honoured to receive the Rising Star Designer Award last Friday, November 1 at the Mansion House in Dublin.

Speaking to the Dundalk Democrat, Rachel said the pair began their business four years ago during the global COVID-19 pandemic, "in our garden shed really", she laughs.

"We've just grown from strength to strength, recently we opened our new design studio just across from McDonald's on Stapleton Drive so this is really helping to grow and develop our business.

"We've been working very closely with a lot of clients locally and all over Ireland and we've a few international clients as well that have been very trusting in us and in our design flare and to do the best in their homes that we can. To have this recognised in the Design Award is just amazing."

Rachel said they both felt "very honoured and privileged" to be part of Ireland's Home Interiors and Living Magazine Awards. She explains: "They have been going for thirty years so this is the first year they've done interior design awards and to be shortlisted as well as to be finalists for two of the awards, we just felt overwhelmed, it was amazing."

She continued: "It's just great confidence really for us going forward to know that the board of judges that we sat in front of when we gave our presentations could see our thirst and ambition to keep going and grow the business."

Hestia's aim is to make design accessible to everyone regardless of their budget, their services range from residential work to commercial and given the pair's different styles, they said: "No matter who walks through the door, we'll be able to cater to the client."

Rachel explained: "It's about the client's style and the client putting their stamp on their home which is what we love to do and strive to do just to make the client happy in their home.

She concluded: "We're very approachable and we do everything from concept to completion and our door is always open. We do everything from picking a paint colour right through to a turnkey service for new builds and renovations."
