Louth Running: How running changed my life and can change yours

I want to inspire others. If you haven’t tried running yet, I highly recommend giving it a go—it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, right up there with having kids and picking my wife.

As a hobby or pastime, running has brought me so much joy.

I’ve made incredible friends, and there have been so many proud moments along the way.

Whether you're aiming for a 5k or a 10k, the journey takes effort, but once you get there, it’s absolutely worth it.

I've been running for nearly 15 years now! I run almost every day, usually taking one or two rest days a week.

Some days are tough—you head out and wonder why you're doing it, especially when running solo.

This morning, I tackled a 10k, and my legs felt heavy before I even stepped out the door. I came back just as tired.

I also have a big international road race coming up. I’m no elite athlete, but why not give it a go?

I ran it two years in a row before but haven’t done it in six years.

Let’s see what happens—hopefully, it won’t break me. I’m really looking forward to it.

This week I’ve got the Fitzers 5k. That’s probably one of my big stepping stones for the year.

I’m not entirely sure where my fitness stands for the 3k or 5k, but soon I’ll have a much better idea.

Looking further ahead, I’ve also got the Dundalk Half Marathon on the calendar. The next two months are going to be busy.

Back to my love for running—I mentioned wanting to inspire people, and I mean it!

If you're sitting on the couch, it's time to get up. Head over to myrunresults, Google it, and pick a race.

Give yourself six to eight weeks, start training, and see what happens.

Whether you use a Couch to 5k app or another running program, just get moving!

Even better, come join me! We run on Monday mornings at 9:30am outside Blackrock Community Centre, or at 6:30 pm in Finnabair Industrial Estate.

Two options—just show up! It’s great craic, and having a group keeps you accountable.
