The Runner’s High: Why running gives you a buzz and a better life!

Why do people love running? The buzz running gives you! If you get out first thing in the morning for a run; some people would say “Mission Complete.”

You have already achieved what many have not. You have just done your 5 or 10k and some are still in bed. You will come home from your run on top of the world. I think it’s the best way to start the day. Between 7am to 10am is my favourite time to run. After my run, I will do a few stretches and also before my run. I recommend doing dynamic stretches. These are stretches where you are not still. Shake the body and legs out with some A skips and B skips. The professionals would do these (Google or YouTube A and B skips for warm up running).

Doing all the above stretching before and after running is to prevent the word all athletes hate, injury. I will do another article on injuries later on. After running and stretching, another good thing you can do is take protein to help rebuild your muscles. Then in for a lovely shower. Before the shower, some, if they have it, may have an ice bath again to help the muscles. After that, get a good meal and enjoy the day.

I get such a buzz out of running! It feels like no one can touch you. You feel on top of the world. You can be at one with yourself. Think about any issues or problems and how to solve them.

Running really is great and you get such a buzz from it. The week leading into a race is great. It’s important to eat right and train right the last few days leading into the race day. Get your running gear ready, North East Runners vest and number if you have it; put the number on the vest. Invite the family along; cheering squad. The buzz of race day, I love it. What time will I get?

Will I be happy or sad? Will it be a PB? A PB standing for personal best.

Why running gives you a buzz and why running is great:
1. Running makes you feel good about yourself.
2. Running gives you an identity and purpose.
3. Running can make you more fit.
4.Running can influence your eating habits in a good way.
5. You will make new friends.
6. It will be good for your mental health.
7. Productivity work related and general to dos.
8. Good to get out and get some fresh air.
