Nicola Pierce
Dundalk's An Táin Arts Centre’s book club returns to Roe River Books on Thursday, 26th February at 8pm, for a discussion of this month’s selected read, the Great Irish Wives by Nicola Pierce. The Book Club has been going strong since April 2020 and meets in Roe River Books on Clanbrassil Street.
Throughout history, the stories of women's lives and work have been pushed behind those of male figures. Great Irish Wives shines a spotlight on ten wives who were instrumental in their famous husbands' success. Drawing on archives, biographies, autobiographies and historical accounts, Nicola Pierce challenges our perception of these women and their men.
The men in this book are household names, from Wolfe Tone and Daniel O'Connell to Oscar Wilde and Brendan Behan, and they all have one thing in common: they married women who enabled them to pursue their dreams.
Paul Hayes Director of An Táin Arts Centre and host of the book club, says:
