Dundalk's Downtown Hub to host screening of powerful audio-visual artwork

Creative Spark Downtown Hub

Creative Spark Downtown Hub said it is delighted to host a special screening and discussion event as part of the national tour of Yes, But..?, an audio-visual artwork by acclaimed Irish artist Marie Brett.

The tour, which runs from 2025 through to Spring 2026, is funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon, and is supported by a number of arts, community and health-care organisations.

Yes, But Do You Care? is a compelling and thought-provoking audio-visual artwork that creatively reimagines the human right to make a bad decision, explores the ethics of family caregiving, and reflects on Ireland’s new capacity legislation.

Held in IMMA’s National Art Collection, this evocative and courageous work fuses visual metaphor with lived experience and judicial text.

Its imagery moves from the open fields to the domestic kitchen — a muscle-man’s bravado, a man spinning freely in tall grass, a dancer moving beneath high-rise flats — while a layered soundscape of tango, waltz, testimony, and legal readings creates an immersive emotional experience.

The artwork was created by Marie Brett in collaboration with renowned choreographer and dancer Philip Connaughton, members of the Dementia Carers Campaign Network supported by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, and advisors in law, advocacy, and human rights.

Marie Brett is an accomplished artist known for making strikingly poignant work that responds to life’s fragility in relation to health care, trauma, and human rights.

Her practice spans digital, sculptural, and live event forms, often engaging communities and exploring the intersection of ethics and aesthetics.

Brett’s work consistently illuminates overlooked or undervalued aspects of care, resilience, and survival.
As part of the Yes, But..? national tour, each venue hosts a special screening followed by a live conversation event.

At Creative Spark Downtown Hub on Wednesday, November 19 at 4pm, audiences will have the opportunity to view the powerful artwork and to take part in an intimate Q&A session with the artist.

Marie Brett will speak about how the piece was made, her motivation and conceptual ideas, and offer insight into behind-the-scenes processes that shaped the work.

This event provides a unique opportunity for audiences to engage directly with an artist whose work challenges, moves, and inspires.

Yes, But..? national tour by artist Marie Brett is funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and supported by arts, community and health-care partners including The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
