Children from across the region were also invited to participate in the festival, either in person through the Drogheda Credit Union Spooks Parade
The Lú Festival of Light drew to a close this Bank Holiday Monday, welcoming approximately 30,000 people to Drogheda for a spectacular display urban animation of lights and storytelling on a unique heritage canvas of Drogheda.
The Lú Festival offered unique experiences to all visitors, with the first public opening of the Dominican Church. An example of urban regeneration, this creative reimagining of an underutilised building brought the stunning church back into civic usage again before its redevelopment into a library.
Children from across the region were also invited to participate in the festival, either in person through the Drogheda Credit Union Spooks Parade which kicked off the festival on Friday 24th, or via the colouring competition which saw winners’ designs projected onto the giant heritage canvas of St Peter’s Church during the festival. The overall winner of the children’s competition was Anaoise McArdle, though the church hosted pictures by over 100 children over the weekend.
Festival organisers said: "We are delighted with the visitor turnout again, it really shows that the projection and stories resonate with the visitors. We have been delighted by the reception received by the new installations, such as the Methodist Church and the Dominican Church. The response to the festival has been overwhelmingly positive and we look forward to its continued growth as a Home of Halloween event in the future."
