As the event enters its final days, the spotlight now shifts to a weekend of major closing events
A number of significant events will take place this week to mark the climax of the groundbreaking Saint Oliver Plunkett Exhibition, which is being held at the Louth County Council Civic Offices, Fair Street, Drogheda.
On display until Saturday, 6th July, the exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to view original artefacts and memorabilia, honouring the legacy of the martyred Archbishop on the 400th anniversary of his birth.
Curated to inspire reflection on Saint Oliver’s life, faith and sacrifice, the exhibition has drawn a steady stream of local and national visitors since its opening. It forms part of a year-long calendar of events that has brought renewed focus to the enduring relevance of his story.
As the event enters its final days, the spotlight now shifts to a weekend of major closing events, bringing together community, culture and spiritual observance:
Friday 4th July sees the first-ever 'Plunkett Clan Gathering' take place at Loughcrew House and Gardens, ancestral seat of the Plunkett family. A moving ecumenical service in the 17th-century church will be followed by historical talks, live music and refreshments, marking a heartfelt tribute in a place of deep personal resonance for the saint’s descendants.

Saturday 5th July promises an evening of music and reflection with the St Oliver Concert at St Peter's Church, West Street. Renowned musical director Edward Holly will lead St Peter’s Male Voice Choir, joined by celebrated soloists Seán Tester and Celine Byrne. This special concert is set to be a highlight of the weekend, and early booking is strongly advised.
The culmination of the anniversary year arrives on Sunday 6th July, with the St Oliver Procession, a pageant of faith and remembrance that will see the community walk together in honour of their local saint. Starting from Holy Family Church at 3pm, the procession will make its way to St Peter's Church on West Street, the home of the national shrine, where a celebratory Mass will be held.
These closing events are a fitting tribute to a figure whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
