Congestion on Ardee street leading to "road rage" among residents

Calls have been made for a weight restriction on Sean O'Carroll Road in Ardee
Ardee councillors have raised concerns that traffic congestion on Sean O'Carroll Street saying it is leading to increased "road rage" among local residents.
Independent councillor Jim Tenanty raised concerns at the January meeting of the Ardee Municipal District.
He called on Louth County Council to implement a weight restriction on the street, previously agreed to by the Town Council, as large vehicles, buses and lorries are travelling "up and down the street" as a shortcut to bypass traffic in Ardee.
Cllr Tenanty said residents are struggling to park outside their homes as a result of all-day parking and are "pulling their hair out", he said the situation has "gone by the joke stage".
"Is there anything we can do to alleviate or help some of the people's aggression because they couldn't in their own gates", he said.
He said the road "doesn't suit two-way traffic" because of the street parking and pans for 200 new houses in the area is only going to make the situation worse.
Enda Murphy, Senior Executive Engineer with Louth County Council said he will engage with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and will update councillors on the matter.
Cathaoirleach, Cllr Dolores Minogue asked for an update for proposed work at the Castle Street/Sean O'Carroll Street junction near Bank of Ireland, where there has also been issues with congestion.
Mr Murphy drawings are done for the project and confirmed sufficient funding should be in place.
