The 2025 Ardee Municipal District Civic Awards took place in the Ardee Parish Centre. 

The annual awards honour individuals and groups that demonstrated dedicated service to the community, and represented their area on the national or international stage. 

There were nine award winners in total, who were nominated and reviewed by the six elected members of Ardee Municipal District. 

  • Jackie Brennan – Honoured for over 30 years of tireless fundraising for local charities, Jackie has inspired countless others to join her efforts, creating a tradition of community giving that strengthens bonds and supports vital causes across Ardee and Mid-Louth.

  • Sean Geeney – Honoured for over 35 years of leadership in charitable and community initiatives across Castlebellingham and Annagassan. Sean’s dedication has strengthened local life, supported countless events, and inspired others through his generosity and unwavering commitment to fostering community spirit.

  • Michael Murphy - Honoured for his outstanding dedication to Louth Village, Michael has strengthened community life through decades of leadership, humour, and hard work. From chairing local organisations, like St. Mochta’s GFC and the Parish Council, to championing events and sharing stories in the Argus, his efforts embody true community spirit.

  • Gerry Reynolds - Honoured for his unwavering commitment to keeping Ardee clean and welcoming. Gerry’s tireless work with Ardee Tidy Towns and support for the Council reflects deep community pride, ensuring the town remains attractive for residents and visitors alike.

 

  • Abbie Sheridan – Honoured for her exceptional sporting achievement in winning the 3000m steeplechase National Title in 2025. Abbie’s talent, determination, and relentless training have brought pride to Ardee and inspired young athletes across the county to pursue excellence.

  • Raymond Torris – Honoured for his exceptional achievements at the Special Olympics, winning two Gold Medals and one Silver. Raymond’s determination and resilience inspire the entire community, showcasing the power of perseverance and inclusion in sport.

  • Local Vocals – Honoured for their outstanding contribution to community spirit through music, friendship, and charitable work. This vibrant choir of over 55 women has performed at prestigious venues and raised significant funds for local causes, inspiring generosity and inclusivity.

  • Boyne Fishermen Recovery & Rescue – Honoured for their exceptional dedication to marine search and rescue across Ireland. This voluntary service provides lifesaving assistance and compassionate recovery efforts, supported by rigorous training and professionalism, embodying courage, community spirit, and unwavering commitment to those in need.

  • Mid Louth Men’s Shed – Honoured for fostering friendship, creativity, and charitable involvement within the community. Through weekly gatherings, music sessions for nursing home residents, and support for local causes, the group exemplifies connection, kindness, and the true spirit of volunteerism.

The ceremony was opened by a parade of the national flag carried by Uli Keller, Stephen Grey and Dita Durse, of Louth County Council Fire and Rescue Service. 

There were also speeches by Cllr Dolores Minogue, Cathaoirleach of Ardee Municipal District and David Conway, Chief Executive of Louth County Council.

Cllr Minogue commended the award winners for their "remarkable dedication" and  said "their achievements have left a lasting legacy in our communities." 

Mr Conway said the Civic Awards highlight the "extraordinary efforts of people who give their time and energy selflessly for the benefit of others in their communities."
