John Street in Ardee
As part of its Leakage Reduction Programme, Uisce Éireann will next week start to replace 670 metres of ageing water mains at John Street, Ardee and the N2 Drogheda Road.
The company say: "The project will deliver significant benefits to the local community by eliminating existing leaks, reducing the likelihood of bursts and outages, and ensuring a more reliable and resilient water supply for homes and businesses.
"This project will also deliver long-term cost savings by improving the overall efficiency of the water network, reducing the need for ongoing maintenance and minimising the risk of future disruption."
Works will require localised lane closures along John Street, which will be carried out in stages to minimise disruption.
Uisce Éireann’s Declan Healy said:
"This section of the network has burst frequently over the last year which has significantly impacted the residents and businesses of John Street as repair works required extensive traffic management and prolonged supply interruptions. By replacing these ageing water mains, we are not only addressing current leakage issues but also preparing the network to meet the demands of future growth. These works will help safeguard this essential service for the community while also delivering long-term operational benefits.

He continued “We understand that traffic management can be inconvenient, but we know from experience that the long-term benefits will outweigh the short term inconvenience, and we thank the community in advance for their patience and support as we deliver this vital project.”
GMC Utilities Group are delivering the works on our behalf, which are expected to be complete in early 2026. Works at John Street will take place from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and works at the N2 Drogheda Road will take place at night between 7pm and 7am, Monday to Friday. Access to businesses and homes along John Street will be maintained.
