Uisce Éireann advises of supply disruptions in Mid-Louth

To ensure the safety of the crews carrying out the repairs to the burst and the safety of the public, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted.

Uisce Éireann is advising of supply disruptions which are affecting customers in Ardee and surrounding areas this afternoon.

Uisce Éireann crews are working to restore normal operations to Blakestown Reservoir following a mechanical fault.

Separately, a burst on the network at the entrance of Sliabh Breagh on the N2 is impacting customers in Ardee and surrounding areas. A crew is on site carrying out repair works.

Alternative water supplies are available for customers in Smarmore due to the high elevation of the area. A water bowser is available at Ballapousta Church until 12pm tomorrow, 15 July. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from bowsers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Uisce Éireann’s David Reilly has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible.

“The mechanical fault at the reservoir and subsequent burst have created a challenging situation. We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage and we thank customers for their support while our works continue. Due to high demand on the water supply, it will take a number of hours for the reservoir to recharge following repairs and customers may experience intermittent outages throughout the day and into tomorrow morning.”

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

Uisce Éireann further said that:

"To ensure the safety of the crews carrying out the repairs to the burst and the safety of the public, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted.
