Marie Donaghy was a double winner at the glittering My Life Staff Appreciation Night, held recently at Segrave Barns, Dunany.

Nurse Marie was honoured with the Spotlight Star Award for her work with adults with intellectual disabilities.

Marie is the House Lead at My Life’s Avenue respite service in Ardee and her entire team also won the John and Vera McCoy Team of All Stars Award for their outstanding work.

Marie, from Dundalk, was presented with the award by last year’s Spotlight Star winner, Alison Rice.

My Life is a provider of HIQA-registered services for adults with physical, sensory and intellectual disabilities in the north-east.

Marie was honoured for being a person who consistently goes over and above their normal duties and creates a positive and inclusive work environment, consistently supporting colleagues.

“We all pull together on a daily basis – we deal with different scenarios every day, and no day is ever the same, which makes what we do really special,” said Marie.

“As an intellectual disability nurse, I feel that I am meant to be in the Avenue respite house, focusing my care on some very special people

“The biggest quality that you can bring to the job is empathy and there is nowhere else that I would like to be.”

The My Life by Estrela Hall group of services is family owned by Michael and Tanya McCoy and the annual Staff Appreciation Night allows the group to show its thanks to the people at the heart of its services.

The McCoy family have been supporting vulnerable adults for many years in locations around the north-east and the group are now expanding to Meath, opening a respite service for people with physical and sensory disabilities.

“We are a great place to work and believe in celebrating our colleagues and their professionalism. The appreciation night is one of the highlights of the year for us,” said CEO, Sean McCoy.

“Our colleagues are at the very heart of our care. What makes our service special is the dynamic and caring environment where colleagues support and care for each other.

“Providing care is personal and we treat those people we care for as if they were a family member. This is unique and it's what sets our services apart.

“With our continuing expansion in Louth and now Meath we are actively recruiting and look forward to welcoming more new colleagues to next year’s appreciation night.”
