Louth County Council’s Seachtain na Gaeilge celebrations continued on Wednesday 12th March with a lively event filled with ceol agus craic at County Hall, Dundalk.
The Martin family from Dromiskin, along with members of Scale Force, provided traditional Irish music while Irish dancers Saoirse and Caoimhe Gaskin from Scoil Rince Móna Ní Rodaigh entertained the guests and staff in the foyer.
Susan Deery, Irish Language Officer, Louth County Council and Cllr John Sheridan, Cathaoirleach of Ardee Municipal District, then introduced and presented certificates of recognition to the recipients of Louth County Council’s first-ever Gaeltacht Scholarships.
The local authority received 133 applications (131 valid) for the 10 scholarships, each worth €300 each, with the winners selected via a random draw which took place on Friday 7th March.
The introduction of the Gaeltacht Scholarship Scheme is a significant step in Louth County Council’s commitment to promoting Seachtain na Gaeilge and the Irish language.
Cllr Sheridan, who attended Rann na Feirste Gaeltacht in Donegal during his time at Coláiste Rís, Dundalk, described the scholarships as “a great investment in our young people and our language.”

“I went to the Gaeltacht and worked as a leader with Niall Ó Sluain from Conradh na Gaeilge, who is here today, and it was a week I will never forget,” he said. “Rann na Feirste is still in my heart, and so is the Irish language.
“The opportunity to go to the Gaeltacht is about seeing a different world and creating a foundation in the Irish language,” he added. “In years to come, today’s recipients will travel the world, meeting people, talking and learning, and they’ll be amazed at the cúpla focal they’ll be able to share with others - in the places they’d least expect - that they have picked up at the Gaeltacht.
“Seachtain na Gaeilge shona daoibh go léir, Lá Fheile Phadraig shona daoibh agus go raibh mile maith agaibh.”
2025 Louth County Council Gaeltacht Scholarship winners: Ryan Martin, Kirsty Clelland, Grace Callan, Zoe White, Éabha Caffrey, Danny Sheridan, Taragh McKeown, Lincoln Smith, Finn Osbourne and Ruairi Carpenter.
