Suspected pipe bomb detonated in Louth town

A technical examination of the scene has since been conducted

Gardaí in Ardee are investigating after they were alerted to the detonation of a suspicious device outside a residence in Cuirt na hAbhann, Ardee, Co Louth, at approximately 2:45am this morning (Tuesday, 22nd October.)

The front porch and door of the house were damaged and nobody was injured.

The property was evacuated and the services of the Irish Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal were requested, who examined a suspected pipe bomb device.

A technical examination of the scene has since been conducted.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact Ardee Garda station on 041 6871130, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.

Anyone who has video footage, including dash-cam footage of the area around this time which may be of assistance, is also asked to contact Gardaí.

Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
