Bellurgan United Boys U14s made the long journey to Carrick-on-Suir for a tough last-32 clash in the SFAI National Cup on Saturday. Bellurgan got off to a flying start, taking the lead inside five minutes with a superb free kick from Conall Breen.

Carrick responded quickly to level the game after 10 minutes, but the Louth side kept their composure and regained the lead before the break through Shea Fearon, going in 2–1 up at half-time.

Carrick came out strongly in the second half, scoring twice in quick succession to turn the tie around and make it 3–2, with under 10 minutes remaining.

Bellurgan dug deep and were rewarded with a penalty soon after, through some fantastic work from Mark Hughes, which Conall Breen calmly converted to bring the score to 3–3. With no further goals, the match headed to extra time.

Bellurgan dominated the first period of extra time and took the lead through Jonah Stewart, making it 4–3.

In the second period, Bellurgan were awarded another penalty, this time through the determination and desire of Jamie Tasker, and once again Conall Breen stepped up to complete his hat-trick and seal a great 5–3 victory for Bellurgan. They now progress to the last sixteen of the competition.
