A new national record was set in the Women’s Over-60 Pentathlon following an outstanding performance by Geraldine Finegan from North East Runners in Dundalk that rewrote the history books.

The previous national points record of 3,164 was not just surpassed, but dramatically broken, with a new total of 4,161 points - an increase of almost 1,000 points.

The five-event pentathlon took place over a long and demanding day, starting at 10.00am and finishing at 7.00am with the gruelling 800 metres.

Despite the physical challenge of competing across an entire day, Geraldine delivered a dominant performance, winning all five events.

The competition opened with the 60-metre hurdles, completed in 10.6 seconds, followed by the long jump, high jump, and shot put, where a strong throw of 10.51 metres was achieved.

The day concluded with the 800 metres, bringing the competition to an emphatic and successful close.

Adding to the positivity of the event was the participation of a new pentathlete, Maxine Thein, only 13, who competed with distinction and finished third overall, marking an excellent debut and a promising future in the discipline.

Sincere thanks are extended to the members of the club for their continued encouragement and support, with special appreciation to Caoimhe Lynch and Kelly Anne Gladysz, who organised club jerseys for both athletes at short notice.

Their support contributed greatly to making the day a memorable success both on and off the track.
