Group One

Glen Emmets 1-15 St Kevins 0-15

Glen Emmets survived a late rally from St Kevins in this Louth Intermediate Football Championship clash at Hunterstown as they held out to claim a deserved victory.

The Tullyallen side were cruising when a James Butler point put them nine clear with just seven minutes to play, only for the Kevins to spring to life with an unanswered six points.

However, time ran out before they could complete the comeback, and the Emmets held out. With the advantage of the wind, the Emmets settled quickly, with Conor Grimes opening the scoring direct from the throw-in.

Although Danny Crosbie levelled soon after, the Emmets hit consecutive two-pointers from Andrew Mooney, Grimes and Mooney again to lead by six.

The elements were playing a huge part in the game, and the Tullyallen side took full advantage with further two-pointers from Ian O’Reilly and Callum Wogan to lead by 0-14 to 0-3 at the break.

The Philipstown side spent much of the half defending, but they did manage to add to their tally through Danny Crosbie and Brian Callaghan.

With the wind in their backs, it was the Kevins who started the second half on the front foot and had scores from Tom Matthews, Jack Stokes and Crosbie to cut the gap to eight after 40 minutes.

However, that momentum was halted two minutes later when Danny Grimes struck what proved to be the only goal of the game.

Despite that setback, the Kevins continued to press forward, and a Crosbie free was followed by a two-pointer to cut the gap to 1-14 to 0-9 with ten to play.

Butler then kicked the final point of the game for the Emmets, but his side had to endure a nervous finish as Crosbie hit two more doubles, followed by another from Cameron Maher.

However, there was to be no fairytale comeback as the Emmets were to get their Group 1 campaign off to a winning start.

Group Two

Stabannon Parnells 1-20 St Brides 1-13

Stabannon Parnells made a winning start to the Intermediate Championship with a seven-point victory over St Brides in Darver on Friday night.

Harry Butterly was the star of the show for Parnells as he finished with a stunning total of 14 points to see his side get the better of this Group 2 encounter.

Following their opening day win over O Raghallaighs, St Brides went into the game looking to book their place in the quarter-finals, but defeat means they will have to wait on the outcome of the final group game before they can make plans for the remainder of the season.

It was no surprise that it was Butterly who opened the scoring, only for Kieran McArdle to level matters. However, Stabannon gave themselves a boost when Conor Clinton scored the opening goal of the game.

Parnells continued to press forward, and with Butterly adding his third two-pointer, while Sean Reynolds and Dylan Shevlin found their range, they opened up an eight-point gap.

However, the Brides managed to stem the flow and saw Sean Marry and Andrew Smyth among the points, while a Morgan Tobin goal just before the break cut the gap to 1-14 to 1-8 at the short whistle.

The Knockbridge outfit continued to battle after the restart and had McArdle, Marry and Bernard Laverty among the points.

However, Stabannon were not to be denied and Buttlerly continued to punish the opposition while Ryan Shevlin and Robert Callaghan also got in on the act to ensure their side secured a seven-point win.
