Ardee St. Mary's aim for four-in-a-row
Ardee St. Mary's begin their Senior Football Championship as three-in-a-row winners, having lifted the Joe Ward Cup 13 times. Speaking on the draw Ardee's Ken Rooney, acknowledged the challenges ahead.
He said: "It's a reasonable draw for us. These will be two very hard games. You can't take anything for granted but look, we'd be hoping to come out of the group. From the word go, the target is on your back and to do four in-a-row, it won’t be easy.
"But look, we have to prepare for it as best we can and hopefully we'll do that and see where it takes us. We have to get out of our group first. That's the first thing we have to do and we’ll not be thinking of anything else."
St. Marys find themselves in Group Three alongside Geraldines and St. Fechins and will have to be at their best from the start.
Dundalk Gaels return to senior grade
Intermediate Football Champions, Dundalk Gaels, are fresh off their fifth Seamus Flood Cup title and return to the senior grade as they'll look to make an impact.
Manager, Kevin McKernan, spoke about the step up. He said: "This is a step up that the club wanted to take immediately, which was, you know, getting back into senior football, and I think the task now is for us to approach our league campaign with the focus that puts us in the right sort of mindset and on the right button to be able to go and compete.
"I think Roche, having won the Intermediate title in the year previously, probably are on a similar pathway to ourselves.
"They retained their senior status and again Cooley Kickhams, a seasoned senior team, so it'll be a tough task, but we’re just looking forward to testing ourselves against the best."
Dundalk Gaels have been named in in Group One against Roche Emmets and Cooley Kickhams in what promises to be a competitive group.
Sean O'Mahonys prepare for Intermediate challenge
Sean O'Mahonys will compete in the Intermediate Football Championship and bracing for a tough campaign. Manager Ciarán Sharkey reflected on their group.
He said: "Look, it’s Intermediate football in Louth, there are no easy draws I suppose. We were beaten by Hunterstown last year, so we know exactly what's coming down there; a very good team that took Dundalk Gaels to a replay last year, so they're obviously going to be up for it.
"They'll be looking to go a step further this year, and Wolfe Tones are coming up after winning a Junior Championship so they'll have their tails up and they'll be looking to keep themselves in Intermediate football whatever way they can."
Sean O'Mahonys will battle it out against Wolfe Tones and Hunterstown Rovers in Group Four in a group that promises no easy games.
