Dundalk Summer League U19 CX Sport Cup final
Rock Celtic 3-3 Redeemer Celtic
Redeemer win 5-4 on penalties
Redeemer Celtic claimed the Dundalk Summer League U19 CX Sport Cup title at Oriel Park on Saturday night after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over league champions Rock Celtic.
The Rock were in line to complete the double midway through the second half when leading 3-1, but a spirited Redeemer fightback forced extra-time and penalties, in which they won 5-4.
Kizito Ekwueme, who was dismissed prior to the end of the 90 minutes, put Rock ahead in the closing stages of the first half, only for Colm Bracken to level.
But goals early in the second half, from Jack McKenna and Ekwueme, had the Blackrock side two clear and it was almost 4-1 when Martin Óg O’Brien cleared off the line.
In a dramatic comeback, captain Kevin McCormack and Ryan McDonnell pulled Redeemer level and with penalties following the extra-time periods, McCormack stroked home the winner, as Rock’s fourth attempt was the only unsuccessful effort of the 10.
