Dundalk Musical Society brings Calamity Jane back to the An Táin stage to celebrate 75th anniversary

Dundalk Musical Society said it is proud to announce its 75th Anniversary production of Calamity Jane is coming to An Táin Theatre, Dundalk, from Wednesday 14th to Sunday 18th of October.

With iconic songs such as ‘Black Hills of Dakota,’ ‘The Deadwood Stage (Whip Crack Away),’ and ‘Secret Love,’ and a cast brimming with local talent, the production is not one to be missed. Tickets are €20 plus booking fee and can be purchased at antain.ie or in the An Táin box office.

Chloe Copas is taking on the titular role, alongside Max Valentine as Wild Bill Hickock, Carly Mackin as Katie Brown, and Marc Byrne as Lieut. Danny Gilmartin.

In other roles, you’ll find Tim Ahern as Henry Miller, Aoibhe Sullivan as Susan, Cian Kennedy as Francis Fryer, Jess Murphy as Adelaide Adams, Stephen Clarke as Rattlesnake, and David McArdle as Doc Pierce.

Daniel Maguire is bringing them all together as director and choreographer, with support from Elizabeth Freeburn and Karyn McCooey as Musical Director and Chorus Mistress.

For the society, which was founded in 1922, but reorganised in 1951, celebrating the 75 anniversary with this much-beloved musical is particularly special, having brought Deadwood to Dundalk three times over the years, the first being all the way back in 1968.

This is the final production rounding off this milestone year for the society, following the January pantomime ‘Snow White’ and the 75th Anniversary showcase ‘Showtime’ in March, alongside events and highlights such as a Gala Night in May and three ‘AIMS’ nominations for last year’s production of ‘My Fair Lady.’

Maria Waring, society Chairperson, said: “75 years is a huge milestone for any society to reach - but with the amount of talent we have in Dundalk and the amazing audiences that come back year after year, it’s not hard to see how Dundalk Musical Society has reached such an occasion!

“We’re so delighted to be bringing Calamity Jane back to the stage again, with a wonderful story and so many iconic songs to enjoy. The cast is working very hard and there’s so much talent, and we’d love to see as many people as possible join us to celebrate this final production of our 75th year!”
