Met Éireann has issued a series of warnings ahead of the arrival of Storm Éowyn which could be one of the most destructive storms ever seen in Ireland.
Status red wind warnings have been issued for EVERY county in Ireland with the first taking effect at 2am on Friday and the last remaining valid until 2pm.
For Louth, a status orange wind warning will be in place from midnight until 4pm on Friday while a highest-level status red wind warning will be in effect between 6am and 11am on Friday.
Schools, creches and colleges will remain closed on Friday and all public services, including public transport will NOT operate while status red warnings are in place.
Mayo County Council says its offices will remain closed on Friday and that crews are on standby and will be deployed once it is deemed safe to do so.
“This will be a dangerous, damaging and disruptive storm and we would ask the public to adhere to the guidelines that have been issued by Louth County Council and the relevant authorities,” said Louth County Council Chief Executive David Conway.
Louth County Council says its emergency crews will monitor the situation on Friday and over the coming days and that a major clean-up operation is anticipated across the weekend.
