VIDEO: Wife of Garda Tony Golden accepts Scott medal for bravery in the line of duty

A gold Scott medal for bravery has been awarded posthumously to Garda Tony Golden who was shot dead in Omeath, Co Louth in October 2015.

His wife Nicola received a standing ovation after she accepted the medal.

Garda Golden was shot dead in Omeath in 2015 when he was helping a woman who had been violently assaulted by her partner.  

Dundalk Superintendent Jerry Curley read the citation. Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan paid tribute.

Tributes were paid to Garda Golden today.
