‘Healthy Ireland at your Library’ is a Department of Health-led initiative being delivered in all five libraries in County Louth. As part of the initiative, Louth libraries have organised a full schedule of events, some of which have already taken place.

Events for adults and children include talks on physical and mental health, pharmacist and physiotherapist talks, mindfulness sessions, food and nutrition information events, and art and music therapy - and there are lots more to come.

A new core collection of health-related books and electronic resources have been added to the collection of every single branch to supplement the existing range of health titles. These reflect the six pillars of the Healthy Ireland Programme: Healthy Childhood; Healthy Eating and Active Living; Wellbeing and Mental health; Positive Ageing; Alcohol and Tobacco Free.

The initiative was officially launched earlier in month by the Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Councillor Colm Markey. The launch of the programme was held in conjunction with a health and wellbeing event where over 170 people attended a talk by Dr Harry Barry, G.P., Cognitive Therapist and Author, on Anxiety and Panic as part of the new ‘Healthy Ireland at Your Library’ Programme.

The public is advised to visit their local library and see what is on offer. Membership is free to all and all events and services are free of charge. For further information about Healthy Ireland at Louth Libraries, books and resources available, plus forthcoming events please contact your local branch library or check Louth County Libraries website on or or Twitter @louthcoco
