This summer, visitors are invited to slow down, take the scenic route, and explore one of Ireland’s best-kept secrets: the Sea Louth Scenic Seafood Trail, a 70km coastal journey through County Louth, celebrating fresh local seafood, rich maritime heritage, and jaw-dropping views.

From the medieval charm of Carlingford to the working harbour at Clogherhead, Sea Louth weaves through some of the country’s most picturesque coastal villages and towns. It’s a trail that feeds the soul, and the appetite.

How it Works

To begin your adventure, pick up a free Sea Louth passport from tourist offices in Carlingford, Dundalk or Drogheda.

Along the way, collect custom stamps at 14 scenic coastal viewpoints, from windswept beaches and heritage harbours to panoramic greenways and peaceful piers.

Highlights include the Blue Flag beauty of Port Beach, the panoramic Carlingford Lough Greenway, the heritage harbour at Greenore, vibrant Dundalk Bay with its flourishing food and arts scene, the peaceful charm of Gyles Quay, and the bustling port town of Drogheda, where centuries of maritime history meet lively festivals and delicious local flavours.

Collect ten viewpoint stamps and two stamps from participating restaurants serving local seafood, and you’ll receive a unique Sea Louth keepsake.

“This trail invites people to slow down, take the scenic route, and really savour what’s special about our coastline, not just the views, but the stories, the people, and of course, the food,” said Sabhbh Ní Mhaolagáin, Tourism Officer with Louth County Council.

The People Behind the Flavour

Local producers are the heartbeat of Sea Louth. In Carlingford, the Carlingford Oyster Company, run by the Louët-Feisser family, has been farming oysters for nearly 50 years, their award-winning shellfish shaped by the mineral-rich waters of the Lough.

In Clogherhead, Fisherman’s Catch brings in ultra-fresh seafood just metres from the shore using sustainable, traditional methods.

And Gyles Quay Lobster & Crab, led by Ciaran Gallagher, continues a legacy of lobster and crab potting that dates back to the 1800s.

These are just a flavour of the many passionate producers, fishermen and families working along the County Louth coastline, each one playing a part in this authentic, sea-to-plate story.

Taste the Trail

Whether it’s oysters with a squeeze of fresh lemon in the sunshine or a show-stopping seafood platter, Sea Louth’s participating restaurants serve up the coast on a plate.

Think PJ O’Hare’s Oyster Bar and Ghan House in Carlingford, Square Restaurant n Dundalk, The Clermont in Blackrock, the award-winning Glyde Inn in Annagassan, and Scholar’s Townhouse Hotel in Drogheda.

Expect lobster, oysters, razor clams, prawns, crab and fresh fish – all served with a side of sea breeze and scenic views.

Plan Your Visit

Whether you dip in for a day or tackle the whole trail, Sea Louth invites you to experience the coastline like never before.

Pick up your passport and follow the flavour.
