The motorist was also driving without insurance

Dundalk Gardaí stopped a motorist yesterday who was using their phone while driving.

Gardaí pulled up beside the vehicle and waved to the driver in an attempt to grab his attention.

Failing this, gardaí used their lights to spell out the word 'phone' on their back windshield while sounding their sirens to alert the driver of their presence.

The red-faced driver then had to call someone for a lift after Gardaí seized their vehicle after realising they had no insurance.

In a post on Facebook, Dundalk Gardaí said,

"Totally oblivious.

"Dundalk Roads Policing Unit spotted the driver of this car on the phone this evening. We pulled up beside them and tried to give a nice wave to get their attention. The driver was so focused on their call they didn't wave back so we used lights and sirens instead which had the desired effect.

"The driver needed to call for a lift when we stopped them as we seized the car off them for no insurance."
