What a year it’s been for Dundalk FC and in particular their manager, Stephen Kenny, and star player, Richie Towell. On Friday night, those efforts were recognised by their peers as Kenny was voted PFAI Manager of the Year and Towell PFAI Young Player of the Year.
There’s no doubt that Kenny took a risk taking on such a daunting task. A man with a big reputation in Irish football, it certainly was a gamble taking over such a tumultuous club but in 12 short months, he’s overseen a transformation Gok Wan would be proud of.
This time last year, Richie Towell was plying his trade for Bluebell United in the Leinster Senior League. 12 months later and he’s taken the Airtricity League by storm and has even been linked with a move to Leeds United. A star has been born.
