Division Two

St. Fechin's 1-15 St. Joseph's 1-10

Division Two table toppers St. Fechin’s maintained their 100 percent winning start to the season with a five-point win over St. Joseph’s in Termonfeckin on Friday night.

Fechin’s fielded without their county stars and Joe’s had the better of the early exchanges, dominating the play and opening the scoring when Conor Neary’s rising shot cleared the crossbar on 10 minutes. A pinpoint sideline ball from Dáire Smyth was collected by Alan Quigley and he side stepped his man to calmly place the ball in the corner of the Fechin’s net. Killian Staunton put Joe’s 1-2 up on 14 minutes.

Wind assisted, Fechin’s got to grips with the game and powered back with six unanswered points through Niall Devlin (2), Brian Devlin (2), Seán Kerrisk and Harry McCarthy. However, Joe’s finished the half with two well-worked scores from Smyth and Alan Quigley to leave the visitors 1-4 to 0-6 ahead at half-time.

In the opening minutes of the second half the teams traded points with Alan Quigley for Joe’s and Niall Devlin for. Fechin’s before a Craig Doherty free put Joe’s ahead by two. Fechin’s then hit the front on 38 minutes when Niall Devlin drifted past a crowded Joe’s defence to place the ball in the left corner of the net.

A minute later the Dromiskin/Darver side equalised from a Quigley free before Kerrisk and Quigley exchanged points each to leave the teams tied at 1-9 each on 45 minutes.

Fechin’s took control around midfield and three excellent points in as many minutes between the 46th and 48th minutes from Kerrisk, Niall Devlin and Brain Devlin gave them a lead that they held to the end.

Eugene Judge’s men continued to create scoring opportunities and two points from substitute Joe Corrigan had Fechin’s ahead by five with time running out. Both sides added points in the closing minutes, but Fechin’s maintained their excellent start to the season.
