FANZONE | Ian Sharkey says 'the master, Barry Kehoe, had it all...'

Shamrock Rovers always was and always will be biggest rivals. The Drogs a close second, some memorable clashes in the ’80s against them.

HOW LONG ARE YOU A SUPPORTER?
About 40 years or so, around 77/78, started going with my grandad, Eugene, and father, Paddy, and then anyone who would bring me, Tom Minogue and John Kierans were regulars.

FIRST MEMORY OF ORIEL PARK
Being lifted over the gate on the way out of the Celtic match ’79. I remember little of game, but can recall being lifted up on to town-end wall by Spurs fans to watch the game in ’81. Stayed on the wall until Mick Fairclough hit the equaliser, when I jumped from the wall into the crowd.

STAND OR SHED?
Early on it depended who I went to the games with, but usually stand or town-end terrace. Now, I reside in the seats on the Carrick side of the shed.

CUP OR LEAGUE?
League, every time.

FAVOURITE CURRENT PLAYER?
Robbie Benson: superb player, finds time on ball, dictates the pace of games and scores important goals.

ALL-TIME FAVOURITE PLAYER?
Barry Kehoe, a master of his trade. Had it all.

OPPOSITION PLAYER YOU ADMIRE?
Present: Raff Cretaro, an all round good player. Past is the one and only Liam Coyle: a football genius.

BIGGEST RIVALRY?
Shamrock Rovers always was and always will be biggest rivals. The Drogs a close second, some memorable clashes in the ’80s against them.

OTHER TEAM YOU LIKE TO SEE DOING WELL?
Cobh Ramblers I like to see doing well. They first came to my attention in 1983 during a brilliant cup run which caught the imagination of the country.

GAME OF THE KENNY ERA?
Torn between the first league winning night vs Cork City and BATE, but BATE in Tallaght to qualify for the Europa League was special and unforgettable. When Benson scored the third goal I couldn’t talk; just amazing scenes.

ALL-TIME DUNDALK XI?
Tough question and if I was answering it in 15/20 years from now I’d say a lot of the past six seasons’ players would be on it.

Team: Richie Blackmore; Tommy McConville, Brian Gartland, James Coll, Martin Lawlor; Tom McNulty, Chris Shields, Robbie Benson, Gino Lawless; David McMillan, Martin Reilly.

SEASON PREDICTION
We’ll win the league by a point from Rovers.
