Joe Carroll previews each of the runners in Friday night's Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup final at Dundalk Stadium

Action from Dundalk Stadium

1211 ARDNASOOL JET   (Droopys Jet-Kilara Jade) Sept ‘16. Owner: Adrian McGhee, Lifford.  Trainer: Cathal McGhee. The champion, attempting to become the first to win the competition a second year running. Went faster than ever before in the semi-finals, recording 21.04. Ran from six then, but connections contend an inside draw is most suitable. Almost certain to start favourite.

1112 CABRA HURRICANE (Kinloch Brae-Cabra Ebony) Sept ’16. Owner: Paul Scally, Thurles.  Trainer: Patrick Guilfoyle. Only finalist to dip under the 21-second barrier when getting to within .08 of the track record in the quarter-finals. Not at his best in a troublesome semi-final, losing his unbeaten run. Has proved himself over longer distances, making it to last year’s Irish Derby semi-finals. Likely second-fav and well drawn in two.

1112 CRONODY TADHG (Zero Ten-Cronody Sophie) Aug ‘16. Owners: James and Padraig Murphy, Co Cork.  Trainer: Kevin Losty. Only blip in the competition so far came in the semi-finals. But although beaten last Friday night, ran a fine home straight to get to within a couple of lengths of Ardnasool Jet. Prior to that opened up big margins in his three wins. Will be a player in a cleanly-run race.

2123 DOONA BUCK (Skywalker Puma-Carthage Girl) Sept 16. Owner: Denis Curtin, London. Trainer: Gerry Holian. Runs from the trap that has supplied most winners in the competition to date, and represents a Galway kennel that has twice been successful, winning with Mabels Dilemma (2005) and Slipalong Hero (2015). Will be among the outsiders and needs luck in running.

4121 LUGS BRANNO (Droopys Jet-Blastoff Annie) June ‘16. Owners: Leo and Eugene McNulty, Co Limerick. Trainer: Donal Cooney. Filled one of final qualifying spots in the opening round, but since then has done little wrong. Put in a strong finish in the semi-finals to collect for the second time, taking the top spot off the odds-on Cabra Hurricane.  Gets his name, probably, from a celebrated Dublin-based law-keeper of years gone by.

2333 BOLEYS FELLA (Premier Fantasy-Boley Lass) Oct ‘15. Owner: Martin Manning, Belfast. Trainer: Marina McKeown. Comes from a Co Down kennel which has twice had a finalist, Catherines  Drico (2015) and, last year, Beslow Maximus. Will be on offer at huge odds, but has the edge in experience on the others having been to traps 43 times. Has been noted doing his strongest running in the home straight.
