Billy Smith helped bagged his second hat-trick in as many games as Woodview Celtic cruised into the next round of the Tully Bookmakers Cup on Friday evening with a 7-0 win over Division Two side Fordrew Rovers at a wind and rain lashed Dundalk Sports Centre astro pitch.
The visitors - who have conceded 80 goals so far this season -held the Premier Division league leaders scoreless until the 20th minute when Stephen Fisher waltzed past a number of defenders to open the scoring.
Smith then struck from 25-yards for his first goal and shortly afterwards Mickey O’Kane, with a back post header from Eimhinn Caldwell’s cross, made it 3-0.
With the first-half drawing to a close, Smith grabbed his second goal after Owen Armstrong picked him out with a clever pass.
The goals continued in the second-half with Smith completing his hat-trick after he had linked up with Conor McErlean.
The final say was left to full-back Paul Warnock who completed the rout when he unbelievably scored direct from two corner kicks.
At this stage, you wouldn’t bet against Raymond Trimble’s side completing another clean sweep of trophies.
Woodview Celtic: Padraig Gorham, Ray McCann, Alan McCartney, Conor McErlean, Paul Warnock, Owen Armstrong, Stephen Fisher (Conor Murphy), Colin Finan, Eimhinn Caldwell, Billy Smith, Mickey O’Kane (Chris Caulfield).
