Both Dundalk Cricket Club’s senior teams kicked of their 2013 league campaigns last weekend.
Dundalk 1sts faced Dundrum 2 on Saturday last and chose to bat first, setting a par score of 151 all out.
A slow scoring Dundrum never really threatened the score line and some good fielding by Dundalk 1sts saw them hold the visitors to 109 all out, giving Dundalk 1 a winning margin of 42 runs.
This is a good start to the Division 8 campaign and hopefully an indicator of more to come. The 1sts next outing is on 11 May when they travel to Adamstown.
The second team, who struggled in Division 12 last year, were unfortunate to face more of the same in their opening game against Swords 2 on Sunday.
Dundalk 2nds tried to contain the north Dublin side, who already had one victory under their belt from the previous weekend.
Swords batted first and went on to score 177 for four but Dundalk, two in reply, were only able to post 26 all out.
This was not a great start for the 2nds but hopefully they will put this behind them for their next match on Saturday May 4 when they face Phoenix 5 at home.
