Liby Dynamites Basketball Club are once again on the international stage as they currently do battle in Spain at the Vl Vila de Santa Susanna International Basketball trophy.
Players from Castleblayney, Killenkere, Longford, Kells and Dundalk make up the two teams that are in action in Santa Susanna which is on the Costa Brava and about 60k from Barcelona.
And with parents and supporters a travelling party of 50 are flying the flag of the North East Basketball League.
The U16 team were due to begin their tournament with a game against Santa Susanna on Sunday while the seniors were also scheduled to play Malgrat before going on to play two French teams on Monday and Tuesday.
After having such a wonderful tournament last year in the Barcelona Cup Dynamites went to Spain with confidence.
Prior to the Spanish trip, Dynamites played the Northern Ireland International Basketball team (BNI), Tolka Rovers, Drimnagh from Dublin and the Longford Torpedoes in warm up games, giving a great account of themselves on all occasions and just narrowly losing by three points to BNI.
“We are playing teams from Holland, France, Spain, Algeria and the USA. The teams cannot wait to take to the floor. With the experience and confidence they gained from last year’s event everyone is travelling with positive feelings for a great tournament”, said Pat Campbell, chairman of Liby Dynamites.
Liby Dynamites are sponsored by Liby Europe and everybody at the club would like to thank Paul Jevens and his company for their kind sponsorship and for assisting the club with the trip.
The progress of both teams can be followed game by game at www.libydynamites.com or follow us on Facebook, Liby Dynamites.
