DUNDALK Cricket Club played its first home game of the season against Clonee CC out in its fine ground at Dromiskin last Sunday.
With the freshly rolled grass looking magnificent thanks to Brendan Watters and his tireless grounds committee, the teams stayed at the wicket for over six hours. The visitors were highly complementary about Dundalk’s facilities and so enthusiastic to keep playing that, in fact, two limited overs games took place, with the honours being shared. In the first, Clonee won by seven wickets, and in the second, Dundalk won by six wickets.
Cricket is a very infectious game and the sheer delight of hitting a boundary casts a spell on the batsman who just wants to play more. So, next weekend there is a feast of cricket awaiting.
There are three matches. On Saturday May 14 the club travel to Clonee’s home ground for the decider. And on Sunday there is a prestigious away fixture up in Waringstown, whilst out in glorious Dromiskin Dundalk will hosts one of the aristocrats of Irish Cricket, Clontarf CC. And the following weekend the club begins its first ever venture in the Leinster League. So, there is an interesting and full schedule ahead.
