Louth GAA and Louth County Council are believed to be edging towards an agreement over the development of a new county grounds on a site at DkIT.

A 12-acre plot situated between DkIT Sport and Heinz is the proposed destination for the stadium and The Democrat has learned that talks between the relevant bodies are continuing ahead of a September 10 deadline - the date of the next County Board meeting.

Local TD Peter Fitzpatrick and Aidan Berrill, Co. Board treasurer, members of the committee charged with negotiating with County Council and DkIT authorities, are said to be among those who have met with Council representatives in recent days and weeks to discuss the matter.

Specific details relating to the proposed development are yet to be fully disclosed; however, plans drawn in 2011 for a ground at DkIT projected a 12,000 capacity stadium.

Should the DkIT project be chosen to pursue, there is scope in the surrounding area to expand the development beyond the current plot, finance and permission dependent.

Co. Board chairman Des Halpenny has reiterated that a number of sites are under inspection. But, at this point, DkIT looks the likeliest destination.
