New homes unveiled in Louth as part of a major housing development

Respond, a construction-led Approved Housing Body and service provider, have been welcoming people to their new lifetime homes in Newtown View, Drogheda this week. In a significant boost to housing in Louth, Respond has delivered 56 new social homes at Newtown View.

The development, undertaken in partnership with Louth County Council, comprises 133 social homes. The homes have been funded through a combination of private finance from the Housing Finance Agency and a Capital Advance Leasing Facility (CALF) loan from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. 

Niamh Randall, spokesperson for Respond, highlighted the importance of collaboration in delivering high-quality housing solutions.

“The partnership with Louth County Council has been instrumental in bringing this development to fruition. It’s a testament to what we can achieve together for the community,” she said. “We are grateful for the ongoing support from our partners, including the Department of Housing, Heritage and Local Government, the Housing Finance Agency, and The Housing Agency. The tenants who have moved into Newtown View will now become part of the community here, and we hope they will be very happy in their new homes.”

The development includes:

• 34 two-bedroom homes, 
• 97 three-bedroom homes, 
• two four-bedroom homes. 

Each home is BER A2 rated and features air-source heat pumps, ensuring high energy efficiency for residents.

Newtown View is situated a short distance from the Drogheda train station and is connected to the town through the D1 and D2 bus link. Drogheda sits on the M1 corridor, servicing Dublin, Dublin Airport, and Belfast. Drogheda is serviced by the 100x and Matthews bus links.

Primary school, St Marys is a short distance from the estate, with Sacred Heart secondary school and St Mary’s secondary school within walking distance. Scotch Hall Shopping Centre is situated beside the estate and is close to surrounding beaches in Mornington and Bettystown. 

Respond, which currently provides homes for 18,935 tenants across 8,611 properties nationwide, has a further 3,206 homes in construction as part of its commitment to addressing Ireland’s housing needs.

Niamh Randall, spokesperson for Respond reiterated the organisation’s focus on long-term construction-led housing solutions.

“Over the last 40 years, we’ve built considerable expertise in managing the construction process. More than 82% of Respond’s housing delivery is now construction-led, meaning we acquire land and fund the building process at every stage, with our in-house experts overseeing quality and cost control. We remain committed to working with the incoming Government to build much-needed homes throughout the country and to provide essential services for families and individuals in need.”
