Louth LE 2024: Antóin Watters elected on first count

Sinn Féin's Antóin Watters has been elected in the first count to Dundalk-Carlingford.

Speaking to the Dundalk Democrat, Antóin said: "It's been a really long day but it's great to get over the line. Look, it's been a tough day, a lot will go on the transfers tomorrow but we're in with a great chance.

"Looking at how the transfers are faring out we are in with a good chance so. Look, I'm delighted to come in on the first count, a look of work gone in.

"I'm nearly eight years in the area, I've done a lot of work and that's going to continue and people are recognising the work, we've an awful lot of big issues in the Cooley peninsula and the north Louth area that we've had to contend with. I'm glad the people have rewarded me for the effort I've made."
