'Insulting' - Dundalk councillors hit out at ‘generic’ Government replies

Dundalk councillors have said they received a number of generic responses to issues from Irish Rail and Government Departments
Dundalk councillors have expressed their frustration at receiving generic responses from Government ministers and departments.
Generic and insulting
The issue was raised at the May meeting of the Dundalk Municipal District meeting in which Independent councillor Maeve Yore said she received a “generic and insulting’ response from Irish Rail regarding parking capacity at Clarke Train Station in the town.
Cllr Yore said she has been in contact with Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Seán Canney regarding the issue.
“It’s not acceptable that Irish rail are treating us like this on an important issue about capacity and future plans. We just want to know what is happening,” she said.
Cllr Yore said representatives in Meath had received the “exact same” response from Irish Rail except it had changed the name of the station.
David Jones, Director of Major Capital Projects and Infrastructure Delivery with Louth County Council said he was not aware of any updates from Irish Rail on the matter.
Sinn Féin councillor Antóin Watters said Cllr Yore “hit the nail on the head with the generic responses we get from Ministers and Departments”.
“I think the generic responses we got in relation to the Carlingford Greenway was an insult.”
“It was a regurgitation of a response I got in February, there’s no answer to a request for a meeting - it was basically ignored.
There was a meeting with Oireachtas members with the Minister for Transport and I think they talked about everything but the Greenway. All it is doing is passing the buck. It’s very disappointing,” he said.
